The Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Biosafety Association are pleased to announce the seminar “Introduction into Biosafety, Biosecurity and Dual-use Concerns in Biotechnology” to be held in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Friday April 25th, 2014 at 930 – 1500. This pilot Seminar is targeting Master and PhD Life Sciences students in Universities and aims at ensuring their biosafety and biosecurity competence. The Seminar will introduce students with the dual-use nature of science and technology, spectrum of biological risks and threats, biosafety and biosecurity concepts, relevant international agreements and regulations, etc. The Seminar is organized within the framework of the Project 18 “International Network of Universities and Institutes for Raising Awareness on Dual-Use Concerns in Bio-Technology”. The Project is part of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centres of Excellence Risk Mitigation Initiative, which involves more than 40 countries www.cbrn-coe.eu. All those, who are interested in dual-use, biosafety and biosecurity issues are encouraged to participate in the Seminar as observers.
